Integrated Veterinary Therapeutics for Horses
About Raquel
– Working as a mixed practice Veterinarian for nine years, Raquel became more aware that we were not treating the underlying cause of the problem and were limited in our approach to musculoskeletal conditions.
Having spent time with Dr. Ian Bidstrup as a student and having her own difficult horses Raquel was passionate about learning chiropractic and exploring a holistic approach. She began with Equine Muscle Release Therapy (EMRT) which opened her thinking to a new way of being and understanding the horse.
In 2012 Raquel began her own business Integrated Veterinary Therapeutics, treating dogs and horses with EMRT, to which she has added Masterton Method, CranioSacral, Laser, Vetkin Taping and a Graduate Diploma in Animal Biomechanical Medicine (Chiropractic and Osteopathic techniques and Rehabilitation), also working in conjunction with McDowells Herbal treatments to optimise healing.
Raquel has been fortunate to be mentored by Sharon May- Davis (Equine Scientist) in the anatomy, bio-mechanics and injuries of the horse including – 15 Horse Dissections co-teaching with Sharon – this has correlated what she can feel and see on the outside of the horse to what is on the inside, expanding her understanding and knowledge as a therapist and veterinarian. Raquel has been privileged to take over the teaching of Sharon May-Davis clinics in Australia and Overseas- Anatomy and Palpation (2 days), Bio-mechanics (2 days) and have added to this Equine Veterinary Bio-mechanical Assessment (4 days) and Vetkin taping clinics (2 days) – the participants in these clinics are horse owners, riders, experienced horse therapists, veterinarians, dentists, saddle fitters and bit fitters.
This year Raquel has co- authored a published paper with Sharon May- Davis and accepted a position at Charles Sturt University Wagga Wagga a lecturer in Equine Disease, Injury and Rehabilitation and The Equine Athlete and to further her research aspirations, her passion being the hyoid.
